Your Recruiting Plan Is About to Get Tested

Aug 16, 2026

Hey Coach,

If you coach a fall sport, you probably have great intentions right now.

You're going to stay on top of recruiting. You're going to follow up consistently. You're going to keep your database updated. You're going to communicate better with your top recruits.

Then preseason happens.

Practice starts. Players need you. Staff meetings get longer. Games begin. Travel kicks in.

And slowly, all those recruiting intentions start disappearing.

I know because I lived it.

Recruiting was important, but practice happening in two hours always felt more important. The player standing in my doorway got my attention. The film that needed to be watched got done. The bus itinerary had a deadline.

Meanwhile, recruiting could always wait until tomorrow.

And that's exactly why I think you need something different this fall.

You need a recruiting scoreboard.

I've been building these with coaching staffs during my workshops this summer, and the idea is incredibly simple.

You should be able to look at one page and know:

Where are we trying to go?

Where are we right now?

What's the gap?

Which recruits matter most right now?

Where is our recruiting funnel getting stuck?

What needs to move next?

That's it.

No complicated spreadsheet you have to spend an hour updating. No giant report that nobody looks at.

One visible scoreboard.

In the version I recently built for a coaching staff, we put the recruiting goal, current numbers, gap, priority recruits, visits, applications, offers, commits, recruiting funnel, weekly focus and next actions all in one place. The purpose is to make the entire recruiting picture visible at a glance.

I want you to really look at that picture above of the Battle Board.

Imagine walking into your office in October after getting home at midnight from an away game.

Instead of trying to remember where recruiting stands, you look at the board.

You know immediately.

We need more visits.

These are our priority recruits.

These three families need attention.

This is what has to happen next.

Now you can act.

That's the advantage of a scoreboard. When your season gets complicated, it keeps the important things visible.

And I think that's the lesson most coaches need right now.

Don't build your recruiting plan for the calm version of your life.

Build it for the version of you that's coming in October.

The tired version. The traveling version. The version with practice, games, recruiting, meetings, players, parents, film and 47 other things competing for your attention.

If your recruiting process only works when you have time to think about it, it's probably going to disappear once your season starts.

Want My Full Recruiting Battle Board?

I'm adding the complete Battle Board training and template to Recruiting Made Simple. I'll walk you through how to set yours up, what numbers to track, how to identify your priority recruits, and how to use it each week once your season gets crazy.

And one quick reminder: I'm also leading the Tudor Pre-Season Recruiting Training August 10-11

I know this is incredibly last minute. Some of you have practice. Some of you have meetings. Some of you may already be thinking, Mandy, there is no way I can sit on Zoom for this.

That's okay.

Every session is recorded.

If you know you need to get your recruiting organized before the season takes over, register and watch the recordings when you can.

One Last Thought

Your recruiting plan probably won't fall apart because it was a bad plan.

It will fall apart because your season got busy.

Build something now that still works when you are.

Win the Day.
