Hey Coach,
Have you ever gotten to Friday afternoon and thought...
"I worked hard all week...but I'm not sure I moved anything important forward."
Practice plans got written.
Emails got answered.
Parents got called.
Meetings happened.
Your assistants needed something.
A recruit texted.
Compliance had a question.
Someone stopped by your office "for just a minute."
And before you knew it...
Monday was gone.
Tuesday felt rushed.
Wednesday became catch-up.
By Friday, you were exhausted.
I've had weeks like that.
Actually...
I've had seasons like that.
For years, I thought I had a time problem.
I didn't.
I had a systems problem.
Because here's what I eventually realized.
Great coaches don't lose their week on Friday.
They lose it on Monday morning.
The first hour of your week quietly determines what kind of coach you'll be for the next five days.
Will you spend the week leading?
Or reacting?
For most coaches, Monday begins the same way.
Coffee.
Open email.
Respond.
Check texts.
Handle whatever feels most urgent.
By 9:00 a.m., you've already spent the first part of your week working on everyone else's priorities instead of your own.
I know.
I did it for years.
Today I coach athletic departments and coaching staffs across the country, and I still see the exact same pattern.
The coaches who seem calm...
The ones who recruit consistently...
The ones who somehow have time for their family...
They aren't magically less busy.
They simply decide what matters before the world decides for them.
That's one of the biggest lessons coaching has taught me.
Busy isn't progress.
Intentional is.
So before you open your inbox tomorrow morning, grab a notebook and answer these three questions.
What has to move by Friday?
Not...
"What do I need to do?"
Instead ask...
"What absolutely has to be different by the end of this week?"
Maybe it's scheduling three campus visits.
Maybe it's reconnecting with five recruits who have gone quiet.
Maybe it's finally having that conversation with your assistant coach.
Focus on outcomes—not tasks.
Next, ask yourself...
Who needs the best version of me this week?
One recruit.
One player.
One assistant.
One family member.
When you know who matters most, it's much easier to protect your energy for them.
Finally...
What can wait?
This might be the hardest question.
Because not everything deserves Monday morning.
Some emails can wait.
Some meetings can wait.
Some problems solve themselves by Wednesday.
The best coaches I've worked with don't try to win every hour.
They protect the hours that matter most.
Here's the phrase I want you to remember this week.
If you don't lead your week, your week will lead you.
The coaches who consistently win don't necessarily have more talent.
They simply have better rhythms.
That's what we're building together every Sunday.
Not more motivation.
A better operating system.
Because systems don't just change your schedule.
They change who you become.
Weekly Win the Day Challenge
Before checking your email Monday morning, write down the three outcomes that would make this week a success.
Not tasks.
Outcomes.
Keep those three priorities on your desk all week.
Every time something new lands on your calendar or in your inbox, ask yourself:
"Does this move one of my three outcomes forward?"
If the answer is no...
It probably doesn't deserve your best time.
Hit reply and tell me your three outcomes for the week.
I read every email, and I'd love to hear what you're focused on.
One Last Thought
Years ago, I believed successful coaches simply worked harder than everyone else.
I don't believe that anymore.
The coaches I admire most don't just work hard.
They know what deserves their hard work.
Have a great week.
Win the Day.
