Mindset Shift #6: Own Your Morning & You Will Win Your Day
Nov 21, 2025
Hey Coach,
Be honest for a second…
How do your mornings usually go?
When I was coaching, mine looked something like this:
Alarm goes off. Snooze once (or three times).
Grab the phone. Open email.
Answer a text. Another one.
Suddenly, I’m putting out fires before my feet even hit the floor.
Sound familiar?
By the time I made it to the office, I’d already coached half my team — in my head.
And guess what? I stayed behind all day.
It was like trying to run a fast break while wearing ankle weights made of stress.
But here’s what I started to notice…
The seasons when I actually owned my mornings — when I took time to plan, move, breathe, or just sit quietly with my favorite cup of hot chocolate/coffee — those were my best seasons because I felt more in control.
I wasn’t calmer because life slowed down or coaching got easier. I was calmer because I slowed down first and took control of the first few minutes.
That’s when it clicked:
Own your morning, and you’ll win your day.
Why this matters for you
If you start your day reacting, you’ll keep reacting.
If you start with intention, you create momentum and you’ll lead with confidence.
Mornings are like the first possession of the game — how you handle it sets the tone for everything that follows.
And if you’re reacting right out of bed, you’re already down ten points before breakfast.
Imagine this version of you
You wake up with a short, simple routine that centers you.
No chaos. No instant email dive.
You feel calm, clear, and ready to lead.
Your players notice.
Your staff notices.
You notice.
That’s what owning your morning looks like — it’s how you lead from stability, not stress.
How to apply it this week
Here’s a quick routine that even the busiest coach can pull off:
- Don’t touch your phone for the first 30 minutes.
(Your team can survive without you until you’ve had coffee.) - Use that time for planning, gratitude, or movement.
No need to build a two-hour routine — Just start with 5-10. - Protect it like practice time.
Would you cancel practice to scroll your phone? Didn’t think so.
Because the truth is:
The way you start sets the tone for how you finish.
So — how will you own your morning tomorrow? I'd love to hear what your morning routines are.
Win the day,
Mandy
P.S. - If this one hit home, I would really appreciate it if you would forward it to another coach who needs a reminder that control doesn’t come from chaos — it comes from clarity.
P.P.S - If you want to hop on a call with me, find a day and time that works for you on my calendar. (I wouldnt offer a call if I was too busy. Book it :)
