Hey Coach,
Over the last few weeks, we’ve been breaking down the article I shared—“10 Success Mindset Shifts Every Coach Needs.”
We’ve talked about choosing growth over comfort, taking fast action, doing instead of worrying, and making change a matter of choice—not the calendar.
This week’s shift builds on all of that:
Stop stepping over wins to chase busywork.
When I was coaching, my days were packed.
I felt productive—but I was really just spinning my wheels.
I’d spend hours replying to emails, fixing little problems, or shuffling papers. And by the end of the day, I was exhausted... but also frustrated.
Why? Because all the real wins—building relationships, developing players, recruiting the right athletes—got pushed to “later.”
And “later” never came.
That’s when it hit me: I was stepping over wins to chase busywork.
Why this matters for you
Not every task deserves your energy. A full calendar isn’t the same as a productive day. And busy? Busy feels safe—but it rarely moves the scoreboard.
Coaches don’t get paid to stay busy. Coaches get paid to win.
So how do you make sure you’re actually working on the right things each day?
Effectiveness before Effort
Busywork eats up your hours. But effectiveness builds your legacy.
When you lead with clarity—when you know your top 3 priorities/wins for the day—you don’t need to work more. You just get better results.
That’s how you build leverage. That’s how you win your day without burning out.
It’s not about doing everything. It’s about doing the right things, in the right order, at the right time.
When you focus on what truly matters, the noise fades, your confidence grows, and the wins stack faster.
How to apply it this week
Step 1: Each morning, write down your top 3 priorities/wins for the day. Step 2: Do those before you let the busywork take over. Step 3: When you check each one off, take a second to notice how your confidence rises.
This isn’t about perfection. It’s about clarity, consistency, and choosing progress over motion.
Imagine this version of you
You walk out of the office knowing you hit the three things that mattered most. You’re not buried in busywork anymore—you’re leading with purpose. Your players and staff notice. You’re calm, focused, and present.
That’s what winning coaches do. They don’t chase activity—they create outcomes.
So, Coach—what are your three wins for today?
Write them down. Check them off. Build reliability. Win the day.
